Mrs. Hernandez

Hello readers, I am Mrs. Teresa Hernandez. I will be teaching second grade in room 13 at George Mayne Elementary School in Alviso. I have been a teacher for a very long time. I have taught all grades preschool, elementary school,  middle school, high school, adult school and university level students. I began teaching at the Middle School level and I worked for twenty years in southern California before moving to Silicon Valley. I arrived here at Mayne in 2001. In 2005 I taught high school for two years at New Valley Alternative High School before returning to the Alviso community. I have served in various roles at Mayne including Assistant Principal 2001-2005 and then Kindergarten teacher 2007-2013. I was assigned to 2nd grade in 2014. This will be my third year teaching 2nd grade. I began teaching 35 years ago!

Teachers are life long learners. I attend professional development each and every year. This summer I was selected to attend the Google Tech Summit. I am looking forward to using the new tech skills at Mayne as our technology hardware is gradually upgraded.

I now live  in San Jose with my family and pets. My daughters graduated from Ponderosa, Peterson Middle School and Wilcox High School. My son graduated from Mayne Elementary and Peterson Middle School. He now attends school in San Jose. My husband Benjamin was born in San Jose and his grandparents lived here in Alviso when they were newlyweds. Eventually they moved to the Inland Empire Riverside, California.

I was born and raised in Long Beach, California. I received my B.A.. and M.A. in Education Administration from Whittier College. I have worked as teacher, administrator and university professor at California State University Northridge. I have worked as an educational consusltant for Tel Ed representing General Motors regarding Solar Powered Vehicle Sunraycer. I am the CoFounder of Padres Unidos California and Hearts and Hands Elders online community outreach networks.

I have a strong bond with the Alviso and Mayne community and look forward to meeting the families and students of Mayne 2015-2016!

In my classroom I strive to prepare your child for 21st Century learning by including multimedia and internet resources as well as common core curriculum and assessments. We strive to encourage collaborative learners and problem solvers. Children will be guided to search for answers and learn to present their discoveries. George Mayne has a diverse staff and student population. We are a community school that values multicultural contributions.
